Dental Frequently Asked Questions:

Abrasion:

No needles and No drills!

Bleaching:

Under the care of your dentist, whitening a dull, stained or discolored smile can be accomplished quickly and painlessly. You can be custom fit for a bleaching tray. This at home method requires you to wear your mouth guard filled with a bleaching solution for part of each day. Also available are white strips, a thin piece of plastic with the bleaching solution already in place, worn for 30minutes twice a day. Results can be seen in as little as two weeks. Ask for your own personal before and after photo so you can really see the difference.

Bonding:

This procedure is used on chipped teeth, to fill in gaps, repair broken teeth or paint over a stained tooth so it will match the rest of your smile.  Bonding is quick and painless. An enamel like material called composite resin is applied to the tooth's surface, sculpted to the ideal shape and then hardened with light.

Bridges:

A bridge is a permanent way to replace one or more of your missing teeth, it is also called a fixed bridge. It is custom made in a dental lab and then held firmly in place by healthy teeth on each side of the missing one.

Crowns:

If your tooth is damaged but the root is still showing, a crown or cap can be used to cover the damaged area. Crowns are made of different kinds of metals, porcelain or porcelain fused to metal. A crown will protect your tooth from further damage. A crown may be needed if you've had a root canal, large fillings, bad staining or teeth that are not the right shape or out of line.

Dental Implants:

When you are missing teeth a dental implant can be used to replace missing roots and help support the replacement. Dental implants are effective, natural looking replacements for missing teeth. Dr. Edyta  can determine whether you are a good candidate for implants. Your attention to oral health will help to determine the success of your implant.

Dentures:

There are 2 types of dentures, partial and full.A partial denture is made up of one or more false teeth and held in place by clasps that fit onto nearby teeth. You can take it out yourself for cleaning and at bedtime. A partial is used when nearby teeth are not strong enough to hold a bridge, or when more than just a few teeth are missing. A full denture is used when all your natural teeth are missing.

Root Canal Treatment:

There is a space inside each tooth called the root canal system, it is filled with dental pulp. This pulp is made up of nerves and blood vessels that help the tooth grow and develop. This pulp is what helps our teeth to grow and develop, once your tooth has fully grown it can survive without the pulp. A Root Canal is needed if the pulp becomes infected or damaged due to cracks, deep cavities or accidents. In performing a Root Canal Dr. Dr. Edyta will take out the pulp by cleaning and enlarging the root canal system and filling it with a rubber material.

Root Planning:

Cleaning the deep pockets of your gums is essential to eliminating Periodontal infection. Root planning is similar to scaling as it is removing the plaque and tartar from your gum line, however it goes beyond the 3mm of gum line accomplished by scaling. Planning is usually spread over several appointments so that we can monitor your gums.

Scaling is used to remove the plaque and tartar build-up that exists 1-3 mm below the gum line and above.

Veneers can work wonders for teeth with a variety of problems.  Teeth that are chipped, cracked, badly worn, badly stained or in need of alignment correction.Long lasting porcelain or composite veneers are ultra thin, specially made laminates that bond to the teeth. Porcelain veneers are stronger and have a longer life than composite bonding, the process does require more timeDr. Edyta begins by removing part of the enamel from your teeth to make room for the veneers. He will take a mold of your teeth and send it away to a lab where your veneers are custom made. On your next visit your veneers can then be attached to your teeth.

Wisdom Teeth usually develop once a patients other teeth have finished coming in, this usually occurs around 17 years of age. You may need to have your wisdom teeth removed if they do not have enough room to fit into your mouth properly. Having your wisdom teeth removed is usually an outpatient procedure, and can be done right in our office, occasionally some patients may need to stay in the hospital. The type and length of surgery will depend upon how developed your wisdom teeth are.
